Subdeacon Nicholas
Teacher of Russian Music, Russian History, and the Law of God

Subdeacon Nicholas was born in Boston, and from a young age, served in the altar of Holy Epiphany Church under Fr. Roman. In 1996, per the request of Fr. Roman, he was tonsured a reader by Bishop Mitrophan.

In 1998, he graduated the College of the Holy Cross (Worcester, MA) with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology.

In 1997-99, he taught history at the parish school of Holy Epiphany Church.

In 2000, he received his MA in history (Boston College).

In 2003, he was ordained subdeacon by Archbishop Laurus.

In 2006, he received his PhD in history (University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill).

In 2010, he completed the Pastoral School of Chicago and Midwest Diocese.

He studied at the choir directing school at Holy Trinity Monastery and has sung in the choir and read in church since 1989. He currently teaches singing and the Law of God.

Ilia was born in Utica, New York (USA). Growing up near The Holy Trinity Monastery (Jordanville, NY), he was a witness to the monastic way of life. As a young boy, he served in the altar, and then as a teen, sang in the choir, both at the monastery, and at his local parish – St. John of Kronstadt Church in Utica.

He received his religious education at the St. John of Kronstadt Parish School, and also from the monks at the Holy Trinity Monastery.

Upon graduating from high school, he received an athletic scholarship to attend the University of New Hampshire where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. In 1987, he was drafted to play American football professionally. His football career brought him to play in Boston, where he, in the end, eventually settled.

In 1998, he was elected as the Parish Warden of the Holy Epiphany Parish, and served in this capacity for 3 years. During these years, he took on the maintenance responsibilities of the Parish School. In 1999, the Parish School Administration asked him to help as a teacher of the Law of God. In 2004, on the Parish Feast Day (Theophany), he was ordained a Reader by Metropolitan Laurus. In 2007, the Parish Rector, Fr. Victor Boldewskul, appointed him the Director of the Parish School.

Matushka Svetlana Boldewskul

Matushka Svetlana was born in Moscow, Russia. She graduated from the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Tver (Russia), majoring in biochemistry. The upbringing by her grandparents protected her from the atheistic influence of the time. After graduating from the university, she attended catechism classes at the town church of the Mt. Athos in Moscow.

In Russia, she met a graduate of the Holy Trinity Seminary (USA) V. Boldewskul, married him, and a year later came to America. At the request of archbishop Alipy, her husband became a priest, served in the city of Columbus (Ohio), and was the parish rector of the cathedral in Cleveland. In 2005, at the request of the protopriest Roman Lukianov, Fr. Victor was appointed an assistant parish rector of the Holy Epiphany Church, and the entire family moved to Boston.

In the parish school, on Sundays, matushka Svetlana teaches the Law of God to the youngest students. On Saturdays, she teaches Russian language to the youngest group and helps in the music class.

Andrey Parhitko

Andrey was born in Sergiev Posad, Moscow region (Russia). While studying at the Russian Pirogov’s State Medical University majoring in molecular biology, he was invited to complete his thesis at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia (US).

After graduating from the University, he remained at the Department of Molecular Biology as a post-graduate student continuing his scientific work in the United States. The laboratory moved from Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia to Brigham and Women’s Hospital & Harvard Medical School in Boston and Andrey followed.

In 2011, in tandem with his daughter enrolling in the preliminary classes of the Holy Epiphany Parish School, Andrey began to help by assisting matushka Svetlana in teaching the Law of God to our youngest children and the Russian language to our older children during the absence of Lilya Finkel.
